Flow Traders math test practice: 60 questions in 6 minutes

The Flow Traders numerical screen is not a typing test. Four options, one clock, +1 for a hit and -1 for a miss, at roughly six seconds per question. That format changes how you should answer: most of the time you are not meant to finish the calculation, you are meant to find the single option that survives a quick check. This desk generates that test and names the shortcut after every question. Free, in your browser.

What the screen looks like

Reports of the Flow Traders assessment describe a rapid-fire numerical section, usually 60 questions in 6 minutes or 80 in 8, drawn from a narrow set of shapes: two-digit products, decimal arithmetic, fraction addition and subtraction, percentages, and equations with a missing operand such as 49 × ? = 343. Nothing is conceptually hard. The pressure comes entirely from the clock, and the scoring means a blind guess is a losing trade: one in four odds on a bet that pays +1 and costs -1.

The point everyone misses: you can skip the calculation

Because the answer is on screen, you rarely need it to the last digit. You need to eliminate three options. These are the checks that do it, and the ones this desk drills by name:

Try these the fast way

49 × ? = 343   (a) 8 (b) 9 (c) 6 (d) 7
(d) 7. The product ends in 3, and only 7 × 9 ends in 3. No division needed.
0.6 × 70 × 5,000   (a) 210,000 (b) 175,000 (c) 21,000 (d) 2,100,000
(a) 210,000. Digits: 6 × 7 × 5 = 210. Zeros: one lost to the 0.6, one from 70, three from 5,000, so three remain.
15 ÷ 5/6   (a) 12 1/6 (b) 9 (c) 18 (d) 15 1/2
(c) 18. Dividing by something under 1 has to make it bigger than 15, which leaves 18 alone.
36 is ...% of 80   (a) 46 (b) 44 (c) 45 (d) 40
(c) 45. 1% of 80 is 0.8, and 0.8 × 45 = 36. Or: 40 would be 50%, so the answer sits a little under.

Two of the five Mental Math modes

Both live on the Mental Math desk, next to the untimed drills and the typed Optiver-style 80-in-8.

Both modes track your accuracy two ways: by question type, and by shortcut. Seeing "Bracket it: 2/9" tells you something a raw score never will.

The rest of the Flow Traders funnel

The numerical screen is the first gate, not the last. Flow Traders also runs a separate sequences test, technical rounds with brainteasers and quick market scenarios, and a case study on ETF pricing and hedging. The Flow Traders interview prep page maps the whole funnel onto a training plan.
