What the SIG process tests

A timed online assessment (Mettl): no-calculator mental arithmetic, probability and expected value, plus options basics like call and put payoffs and put-call parity.
Expected-value games with cards, dice and coins, reasoned out loud.
Brainteasers where the interviewer grades the path, not just the answer.
A poker round: pot odds, expected value, Bayesian updating, position sizing, variance versus edge. You are not expected to be a card shark.
Market intuition, including how option prices move directionally.

Warm up on the real thing

Options basics: a call and a put, both strike 50, same expiry. The call costs 7, the put costs 3, rates are zero. What is the stock price?

54. Put-call parity with zero rates says call minus put equals stock minus strike: 7 − 3 = S − 50, so S = 54. Knowing parity cold turns an option question into one subtraction.

Poker decision: you must call 10 into a pot of 30. You judge you have the best hand 20% of the time. Call or fold?

Fold. Calling 10 to win a final pot of 40 means you need 10/40 = 25% equity to break even. At 20% you are short, so folding is the higher-EV play. This is exactly the pot-odds reasoning their poker round tests.

Expected value: a fair die pays you the square of the face in dollars. Fair price?

91/6 ≈ 15.17. E[X²] = (1 + 4 + 9 + 16 + 25 + 36)/6 = 91/6. Pricing a game as its expected payoff is the reflex behind every SIG EV question.
